Sell Your Old The Source Magazines
Welcome to SellOldMagazines.com—a professional platform for the careful review of vintage magazine collections. If you have early issues of The Source magazine, particularly from the 1990s and early 2000s, your collection may be eligible for review. As one of the most influential publications in hip-hop history, The Source played a central role in documenting music, culture, and politics during a defining era.
We are currently reviewing select The Source magazine collections that meet our general buying criteria.
About The Source Magazine
Founded in 1988 as a newsletter by Harvard students, The Source quickly evolved into the self-described “Bible of Hip-Hop.” Known for its album reviews, artist interviews, 5-Mic rating system, and political commentary, the magazine became the go-to print voice for the rap and R&B community during the 1990s. With iconic covers featuring artists like Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Lil’ Kim, Dr. Dre, and Jay-Z, The Source shaped both fan conversations and industry recognition.
We’re most likely to review:
1990s–Early 2000s U.S. Editions
Issues Featuring Milestone Interviews, Album Reviews, or Cultural Commentary
Covers with Prominent Hip-Hop Artists or Industry Figures
Boxed Lots in Very Good Condition (15+ Issues Preferred)
Copies Without Mailing Labels Whenever Possible
What We’re Looking For
We appreciate all interest in selling The Source magazines, but our ability to accept submissions depends on the following criteria:
Era: We primarily consider issues published from the late 1980s through the early 2000s. Later editions are typically not accepted.
Condition: All magazines must be in very good condition—no missing pages, tears, mold, or water damage.
Mailing Labels: We prefer label-free issues, especially for visually impactful or collectible covers.
Quantity: We do not buy individual magazines. We focus on collections of 15 or more, boxed or suitable for pickup.
Cover Content: Issues highlighting pivotal artists or cultural moments may attract added interest, though content alone does not determine value or eligibility.
Even for historically significant publications like The Source, resale remains niche. We are only able to purchase collections that meet our specific condition, age, and volume requirements.
