Sell Your Vintage Gourmet Magazines (1940s–1950s)

Welcome to SellOldMagazines.com—a trusted platform for the careful and selective review of vintage magazine collections. If you possess original issues of Gourmet magazine from the 1940s or 1950s, your collection may qualify for review. As a publication that captured the essence of culinary arts and sophisticated living during pivotal decades, Gourmet offers valuable insights into the cultural and gastronomic landscape of the era.

We are currently reviewing select Gourmet magazine collections from the 1940s and 1950s that meet our general buying guidelines.

About Gourmet Magazine

First published in January 1941, Gourmet magazine was the first U.S. publication devoted to food and wine. Founded by Earle R. MacAusland, the magazine aimed to cover “good living” on a wider scale, incorporating culture, travel, and politics into its food coverage.

Known for its lush illustrations, in-depth articles, and sophisticated recipes, Gourmet set itself apart from other food publications of its time. The magazine featured contributions from notable writers and chefs, including James Beard, who served as an editor in the 1940s.

Gourmet magazine ceased publication in November 2009, but its legacy endures among collectors and culinary enthusiasts.

What We’re Looking For

While we appreciate all interest, Gourmet magazine submissions must meet the following criteria for consideration:

  • Era: We primarily review issues from the 1940s and 1950s. Later editions may be considered as part of a larger boxed lot.

  • Condition: Magazines must be in very good condition—free from torn pages, significant wear, mold, or water damage.

  • Mailing Labels: We prefer label-free covers, especially when labels obscure logos or cover art.

  • Quantity: We do not purchase individual issues. Submissions should include 10 or more, boxed for shipment or prepared for in-person pickup.

  • Content: Issues featuring significant culinary events, iconic cover art, or contributions from renowned writers may enhance reviewability but do not guarantee acceptance.

Even for esteemed publications like Gourmet, resale remains a niche market. Only collections that meet our combined standards for condition, completeness, and volume are considered.
