About Better Homes & Gardens Magazine
Founded in 1922 as Fruit, Garden and Home, the magazine was rebranded to Better Homes & Gardens in 1924. Throughout the decades, it became a trusted source of inspiration for American households—offering advice on interior design, gardening, recipes, landscaping, DIY projects, and seasonal decorating. Its covers and features reflect changing cultural values, design aesthetics, and consumer habits of the mid-20th century.
Notable early issues often include:
Illustrated and photography-based covers that reflect seasonal, holiday, or domestic themes
Home plans and garden layouts popular in suburban and rural America
Vintage advertisements and recipes from the 1930s to 1960s
DIY features and decor advice with an emphasis on thrift, style, and utility
What We’re Looking For
While we appreciate all inquiries, only Better Homes & Gardens collections that meet the following criteria will be considered for review:
Era: We primarily review issues from the 1920s through the 1960s
Condition: Magazines must be in very good condition—no water damage, torn or missing pages, mold, or major wear
Mailing Labels: Label-free covers preferred, especially when artwork or cover design is impacted
Quantity: We do not purchase individual issues. Submissions should include 10 or more, boxed for shipping or available for local pickup
Content Note: While issues with classic home plans or cover art are of interest, content alone does not determine eligibility
Even for well-known publications like Better Homes & Gardens, resale interest is highly selective. We evaluate collections based on age, volume, and preservation.
